General Election June 2017

During the Dissolution of Parliament prior to the General Election there are no Members of Parliament and the Social Mobility Group has no status as an All-Party Parliamentary Group.

All references to Members of Parliament on the following pages are purely historical.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Social Mobility group was formed in 2011 to "discuss and promote the cause of social mobility; to raise issues of concern and help inform policy makers and opinion formers."  We seek to investigate the challenges for policymakers to ensure life chances are not limited by background.

The group is co-chaired by Justin Madders MP and Baroness Tyler of Enfield.  It has a cross-party membership.

Our secretariat is currently provided by the Sutton Trust.

We recently published our latest report "The class ceiling: Increasing access to the leading professions" following our inquiry which investigated how to increase access of people from disadvantaged backgrounds into the leading professions such as law, finance, medicine, journalism and politics.

A copy of the report can be found here.

House of Lords debate on the report can be found here
